Colors

Flowers are at the heart of my painting because they hold so much of life within them: confidence and delicacy, fullness and impermanence, wildness and order. I work first with strong color—reds, blues, greens, yellows, and metallic touches inherited from the visual world of Chinese gardens, palaces, hardwood, and stone. At other times, the palette drifts into pastels, allowing memory and tenderness to soften the image.

My paintings are primarily floral, with occasional abstract landscapes. They are not attempts to reproduce nature exactly, but to exhibit its emotional truth: the garden as paradise, refuge, renewal, and my happiest place.
